Morgan Freeman Injured in Car Accident


Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman was Morgan Freeman critically injured in a car accident late Sunday night and is in Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee in serious condition. Freeman, age 71, is in serious condition but expected to recover.

The hospital is about 90 miles north of the accident scene in rural Tallahatchie County in the Mississippi Delta. The Mississippi Highway Patrol confirmed Freeman was in a wreck shortly before midnight Sunday. The Highway Patrol are still gathering information and gave no further details as yet. But it appeared that Mr. Freeman’s car was airborne when it left the highway and landed in a ditch. They had to use the jaws of life to extract him from the vehicle. He was conscious and talking – actually joking with some of the rescue workers at one point. When one person tried to snap a photo with a cell phone camera, Freeman joked, "no freebies, no freebies," officers said.

The accident happened at around 11:30pm on Highway 32, about 4 miles west of Charleston, Mississippi, not far from where Morgan Freeman and his wife own a home. He also owns the Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

He was airlifted from the accident scene to the hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, where he is being treated. The hospital is commonly known as The Med, and is an acute-care teaching facility that serves patients within 150 miles of Memphis.

Morgan Freeman, noted for his authoritative voice and commanding screen presence, is one of the most popular and respected actors in Hollywood. He is currently starring in the mega-blockbuster "The Dark Knight. He won an Oscar in 2005 for best performance by an actor in a supporting role for Million Dollar Baby.
